Individual Water and Wastewater Systems

The Siksika Nation Public Works Individual Water & Wastewater team is made up of certified heavy equipment operators, including class 1, and 3 drivers. This team is dedicated to providing septic, and private well services to the 400+ Nation members currently living in homes on private well and septic tank systems. The homes on these systems are very widespread throughput the Nation, mostly found in the remote locations on the Nation, away from the community sub-divisions like Stobart, Cluny, and Suzy Slough Communities etc.

The Individual Water & Wastewater team is available to help Nation members currently facing water quality associated with private well issues by providing different services including the delivery of water (15 Litre Jugs, and small bottles) including the installation and upkeep of private wells and water filtration/treatment equipment.

The Individual Water & Wastewater team is also involved in the overall maintenance and installation of the various septic systems located around the Nation.

The Individual Water & Wastewater team is also involved in assisting Nation members who have suffered a recent lose by providing services that can assist family members with funeral & wake services.

The team is equipped with vacuum trucks and heavy equipment including backhoes, and loaders with certified operators ready to assist Nation members currently requiring assistance and service for their individual water or wastewater systems.

Projects

Currently the service area is working with a certified drain field installer (Consultant/Gentle Men Pros) to address 4 drain fields that were identified as the highest priority back in spring 2022. 1 out of the 4 was completed before the window to do this kind of work closed once winter began. The project will start back up in Spring 2023 to continue the project and finish the last 3 homes.

Projects

Once these 4 homes are complete, another prioritized list will be submitted for the next round of homes requiring repair, aiming to have the entire Nation connected to the main line in the long run.

Projects

The service area is also funding (Class D) to address some of the long standing BWA (boil water advisory), and DNC’s (do not consume) on the Nation. Funds were used to either drill new wells, tie homes into the community system or install treatment equipment. The project started in October 2021 and has since wrapped up removing 11 long standing BWA, and DNC orders on the Nation.

Projects

The service area is also involved in a grant application to get a Hydrogeologist (expert on underground water table) who will assess climate change impact on ground water and study the possible link with low flow private wells on the Nation.

Services Provided

What we do to help Nation members

Maintenance and installation services on private well systems including pressure tanks.
Maintenance and installation services on septic tank systems.
Water delivery if your private well system for your home is currently on a DNC (Do Not Consume Order), or BWA (Boil Water Advisory) for drinking water. Please note that water deliveries will be done every Thursdays.
Assistance, maintenance, and installation of various water filtration system i.e., water softeners, and iron filters.
This service area also provides funeral and burial services to all Nation members. Please refer to the Cemeteries section to learn more.

Please ensure your animals are tied up, and access is clear before crews arrive for all operations.
